Discover the Best WordPress Plugins in this Essential Roundup Review

WordPress is the most popular content management system in the world right now to build and manage websites. This can be clearly seen in the chart below.

One of the best features about WordPress is that it is open source which means the code that powers the platform is made readily available for customization to web developers.

This is one of the reasons for its huge popularity because a whole ecosystem of "plugins" now exist to make your website even better.

  1. Want an online store to sell your products - There's a plugin for that
  2. Want to make it easier for your content to go viral? There's a plugin for that
  3. Maybe you want better Google rankings? WordPress has you covered - HINT - Download Yoast SEO.

However the sheer popularity of WordPress means that there are now over 52790 plugins you can choose from. This sometimes makes it incredibly difficult to know which ones are best to choose.

No worries though I have organised this list for you in order of importance for all website owners.

Thrive Architect

As much as we love WordPress there is an elephant in the room.

The WordPress editor used to add text, images etc is pretty crummy. So much so the team behind WordPress is attempting to fix this with their Gutenberg editor. Word to the wise - don't use that - use Thrive Architect rather.

The Good Stuff:

  • Thrive Architect makes creating a website you can be proud of so much easier. The ability to add professional design elements with drag and drop efficiency makes this a must. Make sure to look at Thrive's no Photoshop needed tutorials to see exactly what this plugin will do to your website management experience.

The Bad Stuff:

  • There is a fee to use Thrive Architect - but at a one time fee of only $67 - we think it is a worthwhile compromise. Other popular WordPress editors charge $99 per annum - so Thrive is a bargain.

Yoast SEO

After installing WordPress this should be the next item on your to-do list to install. Yoast SEO makes your website easier to be found and ranked by Google through its ability to add meta tags and give your posts a SEO score. Make sure to also use the built in XML sitemap generator to automatically ping Google every time you publish new content.

The Good Stuff:

  • There is a lot to like about Yoast SEO but best of all its FREE to use and highly recommended.

The Bad Stuff:

  • There ain't none.

Thrive Leads

Talk to any Internet Marketer and they will tell you the money is in the list. But how do you built said list?

Well that is where Thrive Leads comes into play. This little plugin has every form type imaginable to get your website visitors to subscribe to your newsletter. There is a fee to this one but again it is one time and not an annual license.

The Good Stuff:

  • Literally has every single email opt-in form you could ever want with endless design possibilities enabled through it's Thrive Architect integration. This is one of the most powerful editors right now so means your forms will look exactly how you want to match your brand guidelines. And no to answer your question you don't need to buy Thrive Architect for Thrive Leads to work.

The Bad Stuff:

  • Occasional niggles when using the editor to get the exact design you want. I have found website caching plugins can sometimes interfere but Thrive support team will be able to assist you with this. It now works perfectly for me.

  • It is not free - it costs $67 one time. Again well worth it for power users.

WP Rocket

The best caching plugin for WordPress period.

There are free to use tools out there like W3TC but Rocket blows them out the water with even faster loading website pages.

The Good Stuff:

  • Seen by many professional WordPress developers as the best caching plugin on the market. Infinite settings designed to squeeze every last millisecond of performance out of your servers. Result - Faster page load times no matter where your clients access the website.

The Bad Stuff:

  • It is not FREE and does have an annual pricing model to continue receiving updates and support. This is completely optional and not mandatory though. If you have an excellent website host like WPX Hosting you very possibly won't need dedicated support from WP Rocket anyway.

4.5/5 Stars

Short Pixel

This is related to the plugin above because it is designed to make your website load faster. Images if they are not compressed can really slow down your website. Short Pixel addresses this issue whilst ensuring the quality of the image remains high.

The Good Stuff:

  • Easy to use - works in the background to ensure all your images are compressed at the highest quality. Very affordable too.

The Bad Stuff:

  • Be careful not to leave the "thumbnail reduction" option activated as this will waste your image credits. These credit are cheap but no-one likes to waste!

Thirsty Affiliates

Hands down the best affiliate link management plugin for WordPress. The brand new Pro version includes so much more options including ability to link directly to the Amazon API to add dynamic ecommerce links. It is free to get started and if you want pro its a click away.

The Good Stuff:

  • The best link management for pro affiliates. Free to get started. Pro has some excellent features for power users.

The Bad Stuff:

  • None!

Google Analytics by Monster Insights

Having Google Analytics on your website is a must to track how effective your website is performing. This FREE plugin displays your website data right inside WordPress for ease of use.

The Good Stuff:

  • Makes tracking your website performance easier right within the WordPress dashboard. It does have a way of highlighting the most important data in your face which is always a good thing. Best of all it's FREE.

The Bad Stuff:

  • None! A warning though make sure to remove any old Google Analytics tracking code you may have installed on your website as having duplicate code skews your data.
